I’m trying to actually… you know… achieve my goals for the month, which is a novel concept for me. I’m pretty good at making them, but not so good at sticking to them
One of my goals is to complete a week-long Ironman. I don’t remember where I saw this idea, but basically the goal is to do the Ironman distance over one week. I could never even dream of doing a full Ironman in one day (or a half Ironman… or any triathlon in a competitive setting) so spreading out the distance over one week seems a little more doable.
So, here’s the plan-
I have one week to run 26.2 miles, bike 112 miles and swim 2.4 miles. That sounds like a lot, huh? It makes me have a lot of respect for people that do it all at one time (too crazy to even consider.)
I’m not really looking forward to the swimming part. That requires me to put on a bathing suit (shudder) go out in public in said bathing suit (yikes) and actually swim. I find swimming to be ridiculously tiring! It seems so easy until you’re actually in the water.
I haven’t really run since my last half marathon, but I’m running a 5k tomorrow morning, so I guess we’ll see how my foot is feeling. My uncle is in town for the weekend, and when I asked him if he wanted to run the 5k with me he declared he would rather run a longer distance and that he was planning on doing the 10k. Overachiever
Anyone interested in doing the week-long Ironman with me? I’m starting on Sunday!

You can do it!!! I love the idea of a week long iron man! (Not that I’m agreeing to it or anything.. haha)
Good luck! You’ll be great!
that sounds ridiculously difficult! good luck on it though
I would love to beat myself trying to keep up with you, but I will be off on Tuesday and I won’t have access to a pool or even a bike, so I will try to stick with running. Really, which 5K are you running tomorrow?
Make Room for Santa!
I would love to try that (err, perhaps I should figure out how far 2.4 miles is in metres first…) and would join you for sure if it wasn’t for the weather in the North of the UK at the moment…I should be able to get in the runs and swims, but my road back has NO tyre grip at all so if there’s even the slightest hint of frost I’d have trouble with the biking aspect. I’ll need to have a look at the forecast!
Good luck at your 5K
A proper Iron Man would be a Bucket List goal of mine but I don’t really see it happenning – I have enough trouble just with marathons!
xxx
P.S I am not crazy about wearing a bathing suit either – I use ‘poor technique’ as an excuse for not swimming but really I’ve felt too self-conscious to wear one since…August, I think? So I do empathise!
I’d love to do that sometime, but I can’t run that much right now. I love the idea though.. maybe I’ll pool run for the amount of time it would take to do 26.2 miles. But that would be a lot of time in the pool. Still, I like this idea and I think I’m gonna join you (though with my substitution!)
Cool. My husband would love that since he does tris. Seems like one year he did some sort of bday tri challenge where he had a week to run, swim, bike his age.
what? who? uncle steven?? I’m jealous! good luck!
I hate swimming, too, for all of the reasons you mention. Why is that so much more tiring than running?? So how did you divide all of that up over the week?
This is such a cool challenge! Although I say that from the safety of my sofa with all forms of swimming attire buried at the bottom of a drawer!! ;D Will be very cool to say you have done it though! GOOD LUCK!! I am right behind ya, all the way!! (Again said from the safety of my couch!! Haha!)
I would love to try that challenge if only I had better access to a pool! Looking forward to you blogging all about it!
What a cool idea! I would hate to do that, but only because I despise biking. Believe me, I’ve tried to bike for long distances. Biking and I do not mix.
Good luck!
That’s such a great idea! Brilliant challenge to do, good luck. Hope your foot holds up and I look forward to reading about it
good luck! I’m sure you’ll do great!
You can definitely do this
I’m allergic to chlorine, so the challenge is a no-go for me, but I really like this idea. REALLY like it. I think it sounds like a great way to make sure that you work in so many different forms of exercise.
Just make sure to listen to that foot of yours, lady. You are absolutely not allowed to injure it more through this project. I need you healthy and running strong this spring!
Good luck for your challenge!
Oh this is a really cool idea! The swimming part would be the most challenging for me. I don’t really have access to an indoor pool and every outdoor pool is closed in Chicago!
That’s a brilliant idea, although it sounds like hard work. I can’t really swin very well and don’t have a bike, so I won’t be joining in at the moment. Good luck
Ooh, good luck!
What an awesome idea!!! I wish I had a gym membership right now so I could join you! Such a great challenge. I’m totally amazed by people who do Ironman races!
Oh way too hard for me but I wish you good luck! I know you will do great!
That sounds like an awesome plan! Post baby something I ‘d totally be down trying out.
